These 20 pieces were done specifically for a show I had at the Cedar Street Gallery in Hawaii. The theme of the show was called Night Swim.
My interpretation of the theme was taken from a Bob Dylan's songs quote "People don't live or die, people just float." With that in mind, I created the babies, as visual of birth and the skulls as visual of death. As inspiration for their look, it came from the 1940's movies showcasing Esther Williams. My grandmother and I used to watch her movies when I was a kid, and those colorful flower swim caps left a vivid impression all through my life.
Here are some images of the Floaters.
